Sunnyside GOP Club endorses Joe Murray.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Headline: The Police Are On The Scene

Location: 39-48 61st Street, Woodside, NY 11377

Date and Time: Friday October 18, 2019 7 PM

GOP candidates address veterans and family members at a Veterans Town Hall Meeting in Woodside.

Joe Murray is a retired Police Officer and current criminal defense attorney running to become the Queens District Attorney. Joe is fed up with the current system of corrupt and inept career politicians, making decisions based on popularity instead of the rule of law. Joe told the crowd that he felt compelled to run when Gregory Lasak, the most qualified candidate in the democrat primary, lost his race for DA. Lasak is a friend and supports Joe’s candidacy for Queens DA. Joe was asked about questions ranging from the closing of Rikers Island to homelessness and mental illness. Joe advised against closing Rikers Island because of the security it provides. But, more importantly it meets the diverse needs of a wide variety of inmates. Placing jails in neighborhoods will eliminate this much needed variety. He also explained the need to recognize the difference between addiction and mental illness so they can be dealt with appropriately. He believes his opponents lack this perspective. Joe will use his experience from both sides of the criminal justice system to remove politics from the judicial system and bring justice to the residents of Queens County. The election will be held Tuesday November 5, 2019.

John Cummings is also a retired Police Officer and currently teaches civics at his alma mater ST Raymond’s Catholic High School in the Bronx. John is running to become the US Representative of the 14th Congressional District. He believes legislators pass laws that violate individual rights because they lack a basic understanding of the Constitution and why it was written. When asked how he plans to win a district that has a 7 to 1 ratio of democrat to republican he explained that many of the district’s voters are working class union members with the goal of providing for their families’ safety and security regardless of party affiliation. John further explained that many of them have passed up pay raises to secure the health insurance plans they have. When they learn that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez plans to outlaw their private health plans they’ll understand his approach to policy is in their best interest.

The event organizer Marvin Jeffcoat is active in the veteran’s community and President of the Sunnyside GOP Club. He gave both candidates his personal endorsement. Jeffcoat, a former military policeman believes both candidates bring a unique perspective to the offices they seek because of their law enforcement backgrounds. They will be able to recognize and correct the problems starting to emerge because of the misguided anti law enforcement policies being pushed at the city, state, and federal levels.
